Ever wondered why Halo 3 has so many jaggies? The anti-aliasing may be off, but the game’s been upscaled from a rather unusual resolution – 1152x640 (640p!) to the HD 720p resolution of 1280x720. Here's Bumgie's statement on the same :

The reason we chose this slightly unorthodox resolution and this very complex use of two buffers is simple enough to see – lighting. We wanted to preserve as much dynamic range as possible – so we use one for the high dynamic range and one for the low dynamic range values. Both are combined to create the finished on screen image.

In fact, if you do a comparison shot between the native 1152x640 image and the scaled 1280x720, it’s practically impossible to discern the difference. We would ignore it entirely were it not for the internet’s propensity for drama where none exists. In fact the reason we haven’t mentioned this before in weekly updates, is the simple fact that it would have distracted conversation away from more important aspects of the game, and given tinfoil hats some new gristle to chew on as they catalogued their toenail clippings.

The game’s lighting is in fact remarkable, but the jaggies are also really apparent which makes you cringe during a few scenes in the single player campaign. The multiplayer on the whole seems a lot better, and the gameplay in both modes more than make up for the visual flaws in the game. Nash and I have been hooked on to the Halo 3 MP since while now, and we love every bit of it. Stay tuned to Tech2.com for a review of the same.

For just the second time, someone has managed to hack an iphone. This time, a skilled teenager managed to free an iPhone from the shackles of AT&T. 17-year-old George Holz of New Jersey cracked open his iPhone and hacked it, and now it works with his T-Mobile account. It’s not an easy hack - it takes two hours and requires soldering and software work. You have to admire the kid for cracking the case (and voiding the warranty) on an expensive piece of hardware. He can’t get the visual voicemail to work but otherwise, he says, the phone works fine.

1) From google, take a picture of city night lights, something like this

2) Make a new document in photoshop with a white background. Write out your text

3) Take the ciy lights image and open it with photoshop. Go to image-adjustments-threshold and press ok

4) Now with the marquee tool, select a part of the image which has maximum lights. Copy it and paste it on a new layer on the document with the text

5) Now, select the new layer by ctrl clicking on it. With the layer stlll in selection press on the text layer

6) Press shift+ctrl+i to invert the selection. Now press delete.

Hey all. Its been a long time since i posted, actually I was little busy with holiday homework and stuff. There's loads to tell you. But most importantly, I got a new mobile, L6. Just 10.9 mm thick it is one of the sleekest phone I've ever seen. It has a 1.2 mp VGA camera which delivers really clear pictures compared to Nokia 6681's 1.3 mp.

Hi all. I just found out that my name is persian. Well it is hindu also as persian and sanskrit share the word "Arya" which refers to the aryans. "Aryaman" literally means the protector of the aryans. Aryans are connected very well to west asia and persian empire.

AryAman was also the name of Khashayar's (Achaemenid) naval commander.

So i conclude the meaning of my name has indian as well as persian roots..WoW!!

Linkin Park's 3rd studio album "Minutes to Midnight" is due to release on may 14, 2007 in the world and on may 15th 2007 in North America. The title is a reference to Doomsday clock where minutes to midnight is the proximity of the world to a nuclear destruction. At the time of the release of the title, the time was 5 minutes to midnight. Mike Shinoda has explained that the album has various meanings -

Don't take that at face value. There are layers of meaning, most are metaphoric...It’s definitely a reference to the doomsday clock—the Apocalypse—a metaphor for death and rebirth, but it could also be applied to the music industry, sort of tongue-in-cheek

This was a year-and-a-half long process of really hard work and experimentation in the studio that yielded about 150 rough songs," guitarist Brad Delson told Billboard.com. "Not only is this album incredibly diverse, but the depth of the material is really strong."

THE CHANGE.. WHATS NEW?

In a recent interview with MTV.com, Chester Bennington explained that the nu metal sound from their previous album has been completely removed. He also explained that the new album is a mixture of punk, classical rock and hip-hop beats. In the December issue of the blender magazine, Chester says, "Rick has brought a more of a stripped down, classical rock, hip-hop feel. We are using vintage guitars and drums carved out of wood and skin to get a more tribal feel. Its definitely not nu metal."

Chester also confirmed that the "rap/rock" and"nu metal" that Linkin Park was known for is almost non existent in the new album.

This time, Mike Shinoda will be singing a lot more. It may seem that he is not on the records but he is doing a lot of harmonics. He also sings a couple of songs alone. Linkin Park is presenting themselves in a new way, they've had haircuts, new clothing, its just a new new thing..!!

Another thing to note is the "parental advisory" symbol which appears the first time in any linkin park album(exception of collision course jay-z and linkin park). This time a couple of songs will be having course language.

The album cover is also interesting. Its totally different from the grungy and complicated covers of reanimation, hybrid theory and meterora. The cover is rather simple. For the first time, any of the six members will be appearing on the cover. Also, this will be the first time that Brad Delson will be giving a solo performance.

I wish all of the best to Linkin Park for their new album... but will this "new thing" be as successful as their past? That remains the BIG QUESTION. We will find out in due course of time

I just saw the W850i and thought i must blog about it as soon as possible. Its sleek design and smooth slider make it look very sexy and at a mere 3.9 x 1.8 x 0.5 inches it is as sleek as it can get. At 94 g, the phone is rather light. It is available in two colors- urban gray and style white. The 240x320 pixel screen is a 262,144-color TFT.

With expandable memory, things become very easy. It supports a micro SD card and has 12MB internal phone memory. It supports EDGE , GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800, GSM 1900.

The camera is a 2.0 megapixel camera with 4x zoom, video recording and picture blogging.

The w580i comes with a A2DP bluetooth stereo which helps in transmitting high quality stereo from phone to headset and other devices. It supports mp3, wav, aac, wmv etc. Megabass improves the sound quality of the phone. A music tool called the melody composer/MIDI/ music DJ comes preloaded in the phone with the help of which you can create your own polyphonic ringtones. That was all about the Sony Ericson W580i. At about Rs. 17,000 ( about $380) i think the phone is economic and worth buying if you want a good combination of a walkman and a phone.

Vista on a mac..!

Boot camp is a software from Apple that allow Mac users to run windows OS on their macs. It allows you to dual boot Windows and Mac OS on Intel based Macs. It is available on the apple boot camp download page. The download is rather easy, you just have to enter your e-mail address and the type of computer you are going to use with boot cam, but the download is rather bulky..around 84 MB.

There is going to be an update to the beta version 1.1.12 so that it will boot even Windows Vista!. SO if you use a Mac and had a desire to check out Windows Vista you can now do so!

hi all. Today we will be learning how to change the color of the eyes. Have u ever wanted to have colored-eyes?If yes, then you can learn it by the end of this tutorial

1)First lets take a picture.

2) Double click on the background layer to unlock it. Name it as "Final".

3) create a new layer by clicking on the icon left to the dustbin icon in the layer window. Name this layer as "eyes" and reduce it's opactiy to 50%.

4) now take a hard round brush and adjust the size according to the size of your eyes. Paint on your eyes. (the round portion). Make sure that you are accurate

5) Ctrl click on the eyes layer to select it. Hide this layer by clicking on the eye icon left to the layer.

6) while still in selection of the painted area, click on the final layer. You will find something like this -

5) Now, go to image-adjustments-color balance or press ctrl+ b

6) play with the colors till you get the desired color

You can give it any color of your choice depending on the mood of the picture. I gave it a light clear blue...

There's a juicy Jobs/Gates feud doing the rounds, and it's based on a set of TV ads. You might have seen print ads of this sort- a geeky-looking person in a business suit, and a PC beneath him."I'm a PC", and a "cool"-looking teenager on the right clad in jeans, and beneath him, "I'm a mac." Similar to that are the new TC ads, but these actually use characters that look like Gates and Jobs. The nerdy guy, of course, looks like Gates.

Tech new Web site theregister.co.uk has called the long-standing fued between the two men a "tedious psychodrama between two megalomaniacs,: and it all hings around that Jobs takes Gates' success personally.

In fact, Jobs once said, "The only problem with Microsoft is they just have no taste , and what that means is- "I don't mean in a small way I mean that in a big way."

Asked about the ads, Gates said he hadn't seen it. Then he said he had.

And then- fireworks! For no we can see.. Ballmer sinks Microsoft shares..

Steve Ballmer recently said Wall Street's current expectations for revenue from Vsta may be too "optimistic". Everyone around got that sinking feeling: Microsoft shares dropped by more than 2% shortly after.

"I'm really excited about how enthusiastic people are about Vista but I think some of the revenue forecasts for Vista in 2008 are overly aggressive," Ballmer continued in the meeting for financial analysts.

We're not sure of the financial aspects of all this, but we get the general idea that Ballmer shouldn't (needn't) have said what he did.

People also asked Ballmer about the Jobs vs. Gates TV ads. "I'll give Apple credit for what it's done," Ballmer said. It's not like they've really grown a lot of market share (through the commercials).

"Remember when you're a little tiny niche guy who owns about 2% of the worldwide market, you can be cute one time and it helps you to grow."

I clicked on customize - edit HTML and there in the head section i typed the following code

Pirated CD's are a better option!. I hate steam!

I borrowed this original CD of Counter Strike which included these games - Half life, Condition Zero, and Counter Strike anthology. I was rather happy as I got hold of this CD which i had been desperately wanting for a long long time.

I inserted the first disk. The setup installed Steam, which took about 2 minutes. So far so good. Now it proceeded to installing the three games. Done in 5 minutes ( my insides were jumping to play the game). I tried running the game. It gave this error -

Steam.exe (main exception): Unable to load steam.dll

I called up my other friend and told him about the error. He simply laughed at me for borrowing the original CD rather than the pirated one. He said that his pirated CD never gave any such problem

Now steam being a rather big software should have checked that the CD doesn't have a file like steam.dll missing.

Well i googled for the file and downloaded it from dll-files.com

I got the DLL file. The game has started working. Well it says that it is updating steam.

Well the moral of the story is that PIRATED CD'S ARE A BETTER OPTION! Don't go for an original CD guys it is rather frustrating.

The second disadvantage is that the original CD game only works with an internet connection. If you do not have an INTERNET CONNECTION do not buy an original copy.

You wont believe this. I'm in class tenth!.. i need to study this year man, after all its the "board" year. People say that if you get good marks in boards it may change your life. Maybe that is true. I have to study anyways, because mom has promised a bike if I get good marks :P. Some people say that tenth is difficult while some say it is just like a normal class. Well I think the latter, but I will have to study harder than I do in a normal year. No more fun, no more bunking classes for CODE, no more suji (lol). Well I hope that I will keep up this thinking till the boards!

My performance in exams..was BAD..!

Hi all. Its been a long time since i posted. After all, my exams were going around. Any ways now that they are over, and the results out too, ill post like hell.

Let us talk of my result. My marks weren't exactly "bad" but i could have done much better ( my mom also thinks so). I got 86% in my half-yearlies, but I've dropped a bit this time -

I have dropped about 5%, that is 25 marks!

Now that is bad but the checking was rather strict . My mom thinks I am making excuses but believe me I'm not! You can see that in the average performance of the class, the first rank is just 87%!

Now Amr Diab is from Miṣr ( Egypt), where the official language is Maṣrī, مصري). Maṣrī is also known as "Egyptian Arabic". This language is a modernized form of the classic Arabic.

I am a little confused about this. Is Arabic different from Maṣrī??

he name of the seventh and last Harry Potter book was unveiled on Thursday as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, likely to whet the appetite of millions of eager fans worldwide.

The book, whose title appears on publisher Bloomsbury's website, will be the final installment of JK Rowling's massively popular series featuring the schoolboy wizard.

A publication date has not yet been set for the book, which will follow Harry and friends during their final year at Hogwarts, the school for witches and wizards.

The first six books in the Potter series have sold more than 300 million copies worldwide and been translated into 63 languages, making Rowling Britain's highest-earning woman.

The novels have also been turned into hit films. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the fifth movie in the series, is being filmed and is due for release next year.

Rowling, 41, admitted on her website this week that she was under stress as she wrote the closing chapters of the final Potter novel -- in which she has hinted that the beloved hero may be killed off.

"I'm now writing scenes that have been planned, in some cases, for a dozen years or even more," Rowling revealed.

"I don't think anyone who has not been in a similar situation can possibly know how this feels. I am alternately elated and overwrought.

"I both want, and don't want, to finish this book (don't worry I will)," she wrote.

She then described her odd dreams about Harry's world, which Potter fans are sure to scour for clues about what may happen in the final book.

"For years now, people have asked me whether I ever dream that I am 'in' Harry's world," Rowling wrote.

"The answer was 'no' until a few nights ago, when I had an epic dream in which I was, simultaneously, Harry and the narrator."

Rowling said she recently went on a day trip to the film studios where she saw 20 minutes of footage for the new film, "which looks fantastic".

Joseph Barbera Dies..

Joseph Barbera started his career as a tailor's delivery boy. During the Great Depression he tried unsuccessfully to become a magazine cartoonist for a magazine called The NY Hits Magazine. In 1932 he joined the Van Beuren Studio as an animator and scriptwriter. He worked on cartoons such as Cubby Bear, and Rainbow Parades and also co produced Tom and Jerry. When Van Beuren closed down in 1936, Barbera moved over to the MGM studios.
Lured by a substantial salary increase, Barbera left Terrytoons and New York for the new MGM cartoon unit and California in 1937. The following year he teamed up with William Hanna to direct theatrical short cartoons; Barbera was the storyboard/layout artist, and Hanna was in charge of the timing. Their first venture was Puss Gets the Boot (1940), the first Tom and Jerry film, which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best (Cartoon) Short Subject.
Hanna and Barbera's 17-year partnership on the Tom & Jerry series resulted in 7 Academy Awards for Best (Cartoon) Short Subject, and 14 total nominations, more than any other character-based theatrical animated series. Hanna and Barbera were placed in charge of MGM's animation division in late 1955; however this was short-lived as MGM closed the division in 1957. Following this they teamed up to produce the series The Ruff & Reddy Show, under the company name H-B Enterprises, soon changed to Hanna-Barbera Productions.
Hanna-Barbera Productions became by the late-1960s the most successful television animation studio in the business, producing hit television programs, such as The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Jonny Quest, and Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! by the end of the decade.
Hanna-Barbera had been a subsidiary of Taft Broadcasting (later Great American Communications) since 1967. The studio thrived until 1991, when it was sold to Turner Broadcasting. Hanna and Barbera stayed on as advisors and periodically worked on new Hanna-Barbera shows, including the What-a-Cartoon! series.
Hanna-Barbera, received eight Emmys, including the Governors Award of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in 1988.
Their strengths melded perfectly, critic Leonard Maltin wrote in his book "Of Mice and Magic: A History of American Animated Cartoons." Barbera brought the comic gags and skilled drawing, while Hanna brought warmth and a keen sense of timing.
"This writing-directing team may hold a record for producing consistently superior cartoons using the same characters year after year - without a break or change in routine," Maltin wrote.
Hanna, who died in 2001, once said he was never a good artist but his partner could "capture mood and expression in a quick sketch better than anyone I've ever known."
After Hanna's death, Barbera had remained active as an executive producer for Warner Bros. Animation on television series such as What's New, Scooby-Doo? and Tom and Jerry Tales. He also wrote, co-storyboarded, co-directed and co-produced the theatrical Tom and Jerry short The Karate guard in 2005, thus returning to his and Hanna's first successful cartoon format.

His death was unfortunate. He died of unspecified reasons at his home in Studio City, Los Angeles. We will all miss him because tom and jerry had been and are a part of our lives.

Called iEarth, the NASA software scours EOS databanks for information and converts it into a file that can be viewed via Google Earth.

Choosing a spot on the planet's surface will prompt iEarth to display ground-based measurements for that location, as well as data relating to the atmosphere and space above it, said Brian Wilson on NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.

"This is the first time we've been able to do multi-instrument atmospheric science. You can pick a specific spot on the planet and, starting with the surface, move up in altitude through the troposphere and stratosphere," he said.

Wilson demonstrated a prototype of iEarth at this week's meeting of the American Geophysical Union in San Francisco.

According to New Scientist, NASA will make the iEarth system available for use in April.

He said NASA developed this system on facing the problem of being overwhelmed with huge amount of data on atmosphere.

To help understand climate change, NASA created its Earth Observing System (EOS), made up of a dozen satellites plus a host of weather balloons and ground-based sensors that collect data such as air temperatures, water-vapour densities and aerosol concentrations.

Terabytes of such measurements have been streaming in each day, and the agency was quickly swamped with so much data that all it could do was dump it on disc drives.

The Linux-based A1200 mobile phone (a.k.a the “MOTOMING”) from Motorola is a clamshell unit solidly constructed around a minimalist design. The phone is compact but feels just heavy enough to be taken serious. The black (actually “Licorice”) rubberized body sports chrome-finish detailing along the sides and front panel. The design feature that stands out is a smoky, transparent flip with thin embedded wires leading to the tiny speaker you place against your ear.

The flip is anything but flimsy, but to open this clamshell, you need to employ your fingernails as a shucking knife on one of the two shallow dents on either side of the casing left there to aid opening, but not by much. You will also need fingernails to pull out the plugs that keep the earphone and mini-USB jacks dust-free.

The lens for the 2.0 megapixel camera comes with a tiny flip switch to choose between normal and macro mode. It does a good enough job of taking snapshots and can do so with the camera closed, at which point the whole screen becomes a viewfinder which you can see through the transparent flip.

The zoom is purely digital, so you won’t call on it often unless you’re going for that pixelated look. The zoom operates in 6 distinct steps from 1.0x to 8.0x. To store your images and other data, the phone uses a tiny microSD card for memory expansion.

One of the more interesting uses of the camera is found in the phone’s Business Card Scanner function. You simply slide the selector switch on the camera lens to the macro mode, line up a red rectangle with the edges of your card. If you do it right, it will turn green and automatically snap a picture after a three-second countdown. The Optical Character Recognition function then kicks in and populates your address book entry with the information.

Expect to have to make some corrections before you save the entry. Sometimes the company name is entered as the person’s name and bracketed country codes are copied wholesale. Email addresses, on the other hand, are usually recognized flawlessly.

The phone comes with a telescoping stylus for use with the bright, clear touchscreen, which doubles up as a virtual numeric keypad for normal phone functions, with keys generously spaced. As you can imagine, keeping the screen and clear plastic flip free of fingerprints takes commitment. Voice quality is excellent and volumes of the polyphonic ringtones can be set loud enough to annoy people on the far side of the room. The external buttons all give a responsive click when pressed and the tiny chrome joystick is also quite usable.

What is less usable, on some occasions, is the interface. Opening the main menu displays nine icons at any one time, on a 3×3 grid. If the icon on the lower left is selected and you pushed the joystick up, you would expect the mid left icon to be selected. But no, the mid right icon is selected instead. So to reach the top left icon, the joystick cycles through six icons instead of the expected two. In this situation, forget the joystick.

Another peculiarity is found in the ringtone/vibrate profiles accessible via the external volume buttons. You would expect that all the profile choices involving ringtones would apply to the one ringtone you chose when setting up the phone. Instead you have to set each of the five ring profiles to that one ringtone you want because they all default to different ringtones. It’s an annoyance you can work around once and forget about, unless you change your ringtone often.

You might wonder if a phone based on Linux works properly with a Windows PC. The answer, surprisingly, is yes. But it pays to have a broadband connection set up on the machine when installing the drivers because the process involves downloading around 16MB worth of updates. It comes with “phone tools” software that allows you to sync your data and address list with a PC, as well as drag and drop media files between the two. It can view Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and PDF files but there is no way to edit them. The screen is definitely too small to read any normal-sized font even when maximized to the full width and rotated into landscape mode. You will have to tap and drag the document around to read it.

As with most smart phones, if you open a few applications in succession, the latest application takes over the whole screen. If you forget that you have opened five applications beneath the top one, you’ll be wondering where all your memory went. The phone automatically goes into key lock mode after a few seconds of inactivity when you close the flip. To unlock the phone in the closed position, you have to tap any of the external buttons twice in quick succession.

You have several choices when it comes to text input, which we found to be one of the phone’s strongest features. Handwriting recognition in English is easy and accurate and the strokes appear on the screen as you write. You can write either in upper or lower case, and you can alternate between right and left frames of the input area to speed up your input. But using Graffiti-style writing popularised by Palm devices will lead to errors. There is also a punctuation corner in the right frame. Importantly, backspace and shift buttons are shown even in handwriting mode.

The same goes for Chinese input as well, both traditional and simplified forms. The recognition for written characters is very high, even with purposely poor attempts at writing Chinese characters. Personally I found it quickest to use the on-screen keyboard, which comes with a pinyin and zhuyin version. The pinyin keyboard pops up the next likely letter to make selection even easier. You can use the stylus to peck at the keys but a fingernail will do just as well.

With moderate use of PDA functions, half a dozen calls and some SMSs, the 3.7-volt lithium-ion battery went from full charge to low battery warning just under 24 hours, so keep that charger handy. Both the charger and the data cable use the same mini-USB port on the side of the phone and you can charge the phone from a computer’s USB port. If you are already a Linux user, you are probably used to glossing over a few inconveniences the rest of the world takes for granted. In this sense, the phone lives up to its Linux heritage. If you can put up with the minor inconveniences mentioned above, and use some simply workarounds, this Bluetooth and GPRS-capable phone may just grow on you.

Mozilla Firefox (codename Minefield), version 3.0a1 (pre-Alpha) running on Windows XP

The development name for Mozilla Firefox 3 is Gran Paradiso. The precursory releases were codenamed "Minefield", as this was the name of the trunk builds. "Gran Paradiso", like other Firefox development names, is an actual place. "Gran Paradiso" is the name of a national park in Italy. With the release of version 3.0 alpha 1 on December 8, 2006, it adopted the "Gran Paradiso" codename. The release timeframe for Firefox 3 is May 2007.

The largest change for Firefox 3 will be the implementation of Gecko 1.9, an updated layout engine (more correctly big changes to the reflow code and migration of nsTextFrame to the Thebes infrastructure). Firefox 3 will also include several new features and some that were bumped from Firefox 2, such as the overhauled Places system for storing bookmarks and history in an SQLite backend. Due to Microsoft's decision to end support for Windows 98 and Windows Me on July 11, 2006, and because Cairo does not support Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, and Windows NT 4.0, Firefox 3 will not run on those operating systems. Unlike previous versions, Firefox 3 on Mac OS X will use a Cocoa widget implementation.^[

The development team is also asking that Firefox users submit feature requests that they wish to be included in Firefox 3.

On October 13, 2006, Brendan Eich, Mozilla's Chief Technology Officer, wrote about the plans for Mozilla 2.0, the platform on which Firefox 4 is likely to be based. The fact that Firefox has fewer and less severe publicly known unpatched security vulnerabilities than Internet Explorer is often cited as a reason to switch from Internet Explorer to Firefox for improved security. A 2006 Symantec study showed that Firefox had surpassed Internet Explorer in the number of vendor-confirmed vulnerabilities that year through to September, though these were patched more quickly than vulnerabilities found in other browsers. Symantec later clarified their statement, saying that Firefox still had fewer security vulnerabilities, as counted by security researchers.

Firefox uses SSL/TLS to protect communications with web servers using strong cryptography. It also supports smartcards for secure login to web servers. It uses a sandbox security model and the developers use a "bug bounty" scheme, for finding fixes for some security and feature additions.

Copyleft is a play on the word copyright and is the practice of using copyright law to remove restrictions on distributing copies and modified versions of a work for others and require that the same freedoms be preserved in modified versions.

Copyleft is commonly implemented by a license and is applied to works such as computer

software, documents, music, and art. Whereas copyright law, by default, automatically restricts the right to make and redistribute copies of an author's work, a copyleft license uses copyright law to ensure that every person who receives a copy of a work has the same rights to study, use, modify, and also redistribute both the work, and derived versions of the work. Such licenses typically do so by requiring that the same license terms apply to all redistributed versions of the work. The widest used and originating copyleft license is the GNU General Public License (GPL).

In a non-legal sense, copyleft is the opposite of copyright, by passing on the freedoms of copyright to all recipients of the work. In a legal sense, copyleft uses the right of the author to impose copyright restrictions with a copyright license on those who want to use the work in ways that require copyright. Under a copyleft form of copyright license, the restrictions imposed are that the work can be copied, modified or used in any subsequent work if, and only if, the author of that subsequent work agrees to grant the same copyleft rights to the public to freely copy, use and modify the subsequent work. For this reason copyleft licenses are also known as reciprocal licenses.

Authors use copyleft to allow anyone to use, share and improve the work as a continuing process, disallowing people from sharing derived works with any new restrictions. In the public domain, the absence of copyleft-like protection leaves software in an unprotected state. Authors who use source code in the public domain can spread and sell binaries without providing the source code. If legal copyright was abolished and no other rights were provided there would be no means for copyleft licenses to exist. The need for copyleft would be diminished in such an environment, as it would become lawful for the community to disassemble and disseminate proprietary software as free software. However, there would be no way to preserve freedoms and rights for others or protect from propagations like software hoarding.

I-pod's new competiter : Zune

Microsoft Corp.'s effort to compete against Apple's iPod juggernaut will focus on the idea that people want to be able to easily share music with friends and others.

The software maker said Thursday that its portable Zune media player, scheduled to be available around the holiday season, will include wireless technology to let people share some of their favorite songs, playlists or pictures with other Zune users who are close by.

Those users can listen to the songs three times over three days before deciding whether to purchase it themselves.

"The idea is to legitimize peer-to-peer sharing in a healthy way that works for everybody," said J Allard, a Microsoft vice president in charge of the Zune product line.

Microsoft said the song-sharing capability will be available for most songs available through its forthcoming Zune Marketplace service, although some music publishers won't allow it.

Also, for now at least, users will not be able to buy the songs directly through the device. Instead, they can flag the song and purchase it next time they connect the device to a computer and access the online music store.

Analyst Ted Schadler with Forrester Research said he thinks Microsoft has assembled a strong product with many features Apple's iPod has, and some -- such as the wireless feature -- that it doesn't.

Still, he questioned whether music-sharing would be enough of a draw to get people to switch allegiances.

"I'm not going to change my mind about which product I own for that feature," he said.

The company did not disclose pricing or a specific launch date for the first Zune player. The device, to be made by Toshiba Corp., will have 30 gigabytes of memory (enough to hold about 7,500 songs), a 3-inch screen and a built-in FM tuner. It also will come loaded with about 25 songs or other pieces of content.

Allard said the device is based on Toshiba's Gigabeat handheld music player, but customized to include such things as the wireless capabilities.

Flat Fee

Microsoft's Zune Marketplace music service, designed to compete with Apple Computer Inc.'s iTunes store, will let users buy songs individually or listen to unlimited tracks for a flat subscription fee.

Analyst Phil Leigh with Inside Digital Media said he thinks Microsoft may be able to gain an edge by offering a subscription service. Other companies offer such unlimited plans, but Apple doesn't.

Still, Leigh thinks Microsoft will be hindered by having just one high-end device available at the beginning, while Apple has a broad product line to appeal to a wide variety of users.

"The way to be competitive here would be come in with some choices, instead of just one product," he said.

Allard said the company does eventually plan to offer more devices and features. "We think of the Zune platform and the movement here to be more than the device," he said.

Microsoft has said that Zune is key to staying competitive, but will cost millions of dollars and not pay off immediately.

Other hardware manufacturers, including Creative Technology Ltd. and Samsung Electronics Co., already offer portable media players using Microsoft's software, although they've had limited success against Apple

Linkin Park is a truly unique band. They are not just Rock, Rap, or
Electronica band. They comprimise of a veritable mixture of different styles
and stylists in music, This makes them a hybrid in the type of music they
play and their fan-base too. We are true lovers of Linkin Park

Linkin Park's origin began in 1996 when rapper guitarist Brad Delson and the
infamouis Mike Shinoda started a band called Xero. Other members of the
band were Mark Wakefield the vocalist, Joseph
Hahn the DJ, Rob Bourdon the drummer, and "Phoenix" Farrell the bassist.
Xero made a four track demo tape including: Fuse, Stick N' Move, Rhinestone,
and Reading My Eyes.

When Mark Wakefield left the band, they changed their name to Hybrid
Theory. Later "Phoenix" chose to leave the band to tour with another band,
called"The Snax". The rest of the gang continued to play together primarily
for fun. They later, signed with Zomba Music an occasion that came about
when they played at The Whiskey Club in Los Angeles. The final addition to
the band came in the form of Chester Bennington.

Magical Chester, in our humble opinion, was absolutely the missing catalyst.
His extra-ordinary voice lets him deliver the lyrics at a gentle yet
aggressive pace. He can hit pitch notes like no other. Chester humbly even
blames this on "years of singing" and "scar tissue". We absolutely love him.

His arrival completed the Band. Thus in 1999 Carousel, And One, Technique,
Step up, High Voltage & Part of me were born as a six track EP, to
tremendous applause.

Some legal wrangling made it necessary to change the band's name. True to
their "hybrid' spirit Linkin Park was chosen. Members drove by Lincoln Park
regularly so why not use a similar sounding, unique name. Chester has been
recorded to say he wanted a name which was unique, "where the music could
define the name rather than the name define the music". Phoneix pulled a
mythical rebirth and rejoined the band fulfilling his destiny. New demos
were made and the chase for a record label was on. Warner Records were lucky
to hear the music, like it and sign up Linkin Park. A massive page in their
history was written.

Linkin Park released their debut album, Hybrid Theory In October 2000,. Hits
like One Step Closer, Crawling, and In The End were born. Hybrid Theory
eventually received 8x platinum. Hybrid Theory does not follow a trend set
up by a lot of other bands in that it doesn't contain any curses or swear
words. This was because the band wanted to write lyrics honestly and they
thought that unnecessary swear words take away attention from the music.
They wanted something that the public could listen to over and over again
and enjoy repeatedly. At it's completion they felt they had achieved this
feat with Hybrid Theory.

After Hybrid Theory was released, Linkin Park's fame permitted them to tour
all over the world. They toured with bands like POD, 3 Doors Down, and
System Of a Down.

July of 2002, saw LP release the Hybrid Theory Remix album, Reanimation.
These remixes included talent from rappers like Black Thought and 20 tracks
were cut.

In March of 2003, LP released their 2nd year album, Meteora. This album
includes hits like Somewhere I Belong, Numb,, and Faint. Included on Meteora
and Reanimation were ground breaking extras. They contained enhanced
portions. These parts of the discs included videos and other extra 'goodies"
fans could view on their PC. The band wanted to use technology and let the
fans to see the process of making albums . This helped them share all the
"Blood, Sweat and Tears," they put into making the albums .

Linkin Park has won numerous awards including an award at the VMAs. Their
popularity has grown world-wide. They are now truly international with a
multitude of fans. From their hybrid genres to their non offensive
swear-free lyrics, to their use of turntables and samples, Linkin Park cover
a truly versatile ground and provide an entertaining and unique performance.
